Mitochondrial Dysfunction
Mitochondria are cellular structures found in nearly every cell in the body. These tiny structures influence how much energy you have, how well you heal, how your immune system responds, and how resilient your body is under stress. When your mitochondria do not function properly long-term, a wide range of conditions can emerge or worsen.
Feeling energized, resilient, and able to age well is not accidental. It begins at the cellular level, with mitochondria that are supported, protected, and allowed to do the job they were designed to do.

Mitochondrial Dysfunction: What Your Body Is Trying to Tell You
Approximately 90 percent of the body’s energy supply comes from mitochondria. Because of this, when mitochondria are struggling, the effects are widespread rather than isolated to one system.
Beyond energy production, mitochondria influence inflammation, oxidative stress, and communication with the nervous system. These roles explain why mitochondrial health is closely tied to symptoms like fatigue, chronic inflammation, and difficulty tolerating stress.

While our environment can stress and damage mitochondria, the lifestyle choices we make, what we eat, how we move, how we sleep, and how we manage stress, have the power to protect and even boost our cellular energy.

Supplement Spotlight
Ortho Molecular CollaGEN is in the spotlight this month. Collagen is the most abundant structural protein found in the skin and connective tissues of the body. Roughly 29 different types have been identified. Type I collagen is found in tendons, ligaments, fascia, skin, bones, organs, heart valves, and blood vessels. Type II collagen is found in 70% of the body’s cartilaginous mass, including hyaline and articular cartilage and the intervertebral discs. Over time, factors such as age, lifestyle, genetics, previous injury, inflammation, and biomechanical instability can lead to the breakdown of collagen and slow the process of healthy collagen synthesis.
