September Newsletter: Seasonal Depression

Julian Healthcare Newsletter: Seasonal Depression

As the seasons shift and daylight grows shorter, many people notice changes in their mood, motivation, and even physical health. This can become seasonal depression, a condition tied to light exposure, circadian rhythm, and brain chemistry. In functional medicine, we see how deeply light influences every system in the body, from hormones to sleep to energy production. That’s why exploring safe and effective ways to bring more healing light into your daily life can make such a significant difference.

This month, we’re highlighting one option you may not have considered: red light therapy. Our new blog gives you an overview of how it works and why it may help with seasonal depression, while our free monthly webinar recording dives even deeper into how it helps support your mood and energy through the darker months.

Shining Light on Seasonal Depression with Red Light Therapy

As the days grow shorter, many people struggle with low mood, fatigue, and disrupted sleep. One natural option gaining attention is red light therapy, which supports mood, energy, and circadian rhythm at a cellular level. In our latest blog, we share how red light therapy may help you stay balanced this winter. Read the blog post.

How to Lower Cortisol Naturally for Better Sleep, Energy, and Focus

High cortisol levels aren’t just a buzzword; they’re a signal that your body may be stuck in stress mode. Over time, chronically elevated cortisol can leave you feeling drained, foggy, inflamed, unable to lose weight, and struggling with restful sleep. Your nervous system was designed with resilience in mind. With the right support, you can shift from survival mode back to a place of peace, strength, and renewal. Read the blog post.

A consistent daily red light routine can support your mood, your energy, your sleep, your immunity, and more. It can support you year-round, but specifically in the winter to help stave off those seasonal affective disorder symptoms. Even in the darkest months, we can bring light back into our lives with red light therapy.

Supplement Spotlight

Liquid Vitamin D3 with K2 combines two essential nutrients that work together to support your health. Known as the “sunshine vitamin,” vitamin D3 helps maintain strong bones, cardiovascular function, immune health, and overall well-being—and it’s more effective at sustaining vitamin D levels than vitamin D2. Paired with vitamin K2, this blend further promotes bone strength while supporting immune balance, a healthy inflammatory response, and long-term vitality.

K-FORCE delivers the powerful synergy of vitamins K and D to support whole-body wellness. Together, these nutrients promote optimal bone strength, healthy calcium balance, and cardiovascular health by supporting arterial elasticity. This blend also helps boost immune function, making it a comprehensive formula for overall vitality.

You can find them on Fullscript.

Vitamin D and Mood

Vitamin D plays a role in nearly every system of the body, including hormone and mood regulation. Low levels are often linked with anxiety, depression, and seasonal affective disorder (SAD), which many people experience during the darker winter months. It’s common to see symptoms like low mood, poor motivation, and fatigue improve once vitamin D levels are optimized.

Beyond mood, vitamin D3 is essential for bone, immune, and metabolic health—yet deficiency is widespread and often overlooked. Because sun exposure shifts throughout the year, your summer and winter vitamin D levels will differ. Testing both helps ensure you’re supplementing appropriately year-round and getting the support your body needs in every season.

Hi friends, We would like to share an important update regarding the future of Julian Healthcare. After careful consideration, Susan has decided to transition the practice to fully virtual care, effective at the end of January.
